6th Grade are putting the finishing touches on their maps! Credit for this lesson goes to my favorite place for lessons, Deep Space Sparkle! I even burned the edges a little to give them a worn effect! Check out how they turned out!!

Dinosaur fossil textures
Kindergarten moved to their next element of art, texture! We watched a short video about Texture and then a brief disscussion about fossils, what they were and how they become fossils. Then we talked about the different textures we would be using, clay, dinosaur bones, and paint. I gave them a piece of clay the size of a baseball on a paper plate they I had ready beforehand so it's easier to hand out. Then they wedged the clay or pounded it with their fists to about the size of a pancake. This was tricky for some students who pounded it to much so the clay was too thin. I gave them each a plastic dinosaur that they pressed into the clay. I ordered them off of amazon. I carved their initials on the back for them. Then after a fired them we painted them with a brown tempera wash and then I wiped the excess off with a sponge to reveal their skeletons!

6th Grade 1 point perspective farm landscapes
6th Grade did really well on their one point perspective farm scenes! We discussed foreground, middle ground and background. They drew their scarecrows first in the foreground, then drew their horizon line with the their vanishing point and added crop rows with a crop for the middle ground. A barn or some sort of building was added in the background. We used watercolor crayons for color.

Fifth Grade Self Portraits
Fifth Grade just finished up their contour line self portraits. I always start the beginning of the year off with the this project for the past couple of years. I have a love, not so loveing relationship with this project, it takes a long time, it's challenging for the students in many ways. But there are always a few students who really rock this project and enjoy the process! Here are a few awesome examples! You can find the lesson here: Selfies, Exactly where I want to be

Back to School Night
It's finally time for back to school night! Right now the classroom looks ready, but I feel like I still have a million things to do! It was wonderful to see the community come out and see the new school! I was overwhelmed by how many students and parents came to see the art room! I am very proud of the new school and I know we have all been working really hard to get everything ready in time! I looking forward to an awesome school year!

Leadership Day 2016!
I was so proud of one of my fourth-grade girls, who presented her trifold poster about art class! She did such a wonderful job! I love at the end when she said: "the arts contribute to a well-rounded education." Couldn't have said it better myself!
